Sunnies: Gucci | Necklace: Express | Bag: Foley + Corinna | Top: Express | Bracelet: Express | Bottoms: Express (option) | Shoes: Sam Edelman (option)
Guys, I seriously LOL'd when I saw these photos of this outfit. Uh yeah. A bit much. I feel like a Golden Girl. I don't know why it didn't look as busy in the mirror, but these pictures were like whoa. I ended up stripping all the accessories from this outfit and went with no necklace, a simple pave link bracelet, and nude ballet flats. This shirt, while wonderful, is a pretty bold statement in and of itself - the outfit really didn't *need* anything else. And as much as I love these shoes, if I would have seen the Express option here, I would have gotten those instead. I like that they're not a shiny gold - the Express pair may have worked fine with this outfit.
I decided to share this outfit anyway because a) I didn't have another outfit photographed to replace it b) the outfit itself is great, I just wasn't feeling the accessories, and c) I think it's good to point out what I don't like about my outfits and choices. The good thing about my blog pics is that I was able to catch this *before* I wore the outfit in real life. I shudder to think of all those bad life choices that I wore without knowing any different. Eeeeshk.

Just catching up from last week!
DeleteThanks for the comment! I def fell in love with these shoes at first sight!
Agree with you this outfit is great, but this top is bold enough it doesn't need a necklace. I hate when I realized these things after taking pics :/

Glad it wasn't just me! I'm usually all about going over the top, but yeah no. Not this time! Ha!
DeleteI've totally done this- put on an outfit + accessories, and then laughed at myself in a mirror a little bit. Haha. :) Blogger awareness comes in handy!
ReplyDeleteLove the stripes!

Yes, it sure does! Glad I'm not alone!
DeleteHa! Love that you recognized it. I think I've said it before, but those shoes are so fun!
ReplyDeleteYes, they really are! They just need to be their own focus!
DeleteI'm so used to seeing over-the-top stuff on blogs that this doesn't really phase me, but I can see why you'd want to pare down the accessories, and I agree that it probably makes the whole look a little more...sophisticated maybe? But I do LOVE the zebra print top with the wine/burgundy/whatever color you want to call that skinnies! I was going to pin this b/c of the top but now I'm not sure if you want me to! LOL
ReplyDeleteGina - On the Daily Express
Haha! You can pin it. I'm not responsible if your followers give you a side eye!
DeleteI've done that too with over-acessorizing but you still look so cute and your shoes are so fun!

Love that zebra-print blouse. Haha I knew it was from Express and you know I love those gold smoking flats. I will be honest, I do accessorize a little more since when I started fashion blogging the last couple of years but I also know when to take something off and for hot Summer days I don't pile on my jewelry (like in my last 2 posts).
ReplyDeleteI'm actually pretty bad at accessorizing! It takes a lot of thought for whatever reason! This outfit definitely needed nothing more than itself though!
DeleteIsn't it crazy how deceiving the mirror can be, thank God for pictures, I guess Cher from clueless wasn't that crazy after all with all her Polaroids :)
ReplyDeleteLove the top, it is pretty fun on it's own.
Natalia
Hahah! Yes, Cher was a genius and didn't even know it! I am very thankful for the photos! I do really love this top!
DeleteLove that top on you!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! The print is great!
DeleteLOL...I'm the same way. I didn't release one outfit post because of a statement necklace I wore (I thought it ruined the outfit). I have to say though that I really love the top and I was so close to buying your shoes.
ReplyDeleteKreyola Jounerys
The express version is really great! The shoes are awesome! I would totally support you buying them! :)
DeleteLovin this outfit as I have been looking at burgundy lately. I love the gold oxfords as well, a great touch. Pretty!

Lol! Isn't it funny how outfits can read totally different in pictures? I've had that happen many times. :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the print on that shirt. Black and white prints are the best and so versatile. Love the color of your pants too, so pretty and perfect for fall which I can't believe is right around the corner.

Yes, how is it already fall! I love these pants and wear them seriously all the time in the cooler months! The fact that I'm craving them again is just a sign of cold weather to come!
DeleteOk I totally don't think you look like a golden girl! Isn't it funny how you can like a outfit in person, but look at the pictures and not love it? That happened to me a couple of weeks ago. But I think it is great that you posted it to point out what you didn't think worked. I think you look fabulous as always. And I want those gold oxfords!

Awww - this was very sweet, thank you! I definitely wasn't fishing for compliments, like you said - it's helpful to mention what I like and don't like. I certainly don't like *every* outfit I post - the blog just continues to help me evolve my style! It's a great tool, really!
DeleteYou do not look like a golden girl, those shoes are MAGICAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for linking up with Tremendous Tuesday!!!
Hugs!Amber
Hahahaha! You are freaking hilarious, girl! Thanks for making me smile!
DeleteAnd yes, the shoes really are magical! Just maybe a bit too much magic for one outfit!
I love the top! I have so done this once before - I took my ootd photos and then when I got ready to post them was like oh my gosh I can't use these! Oh well, lessons learned!
ReplyDeletewww.madeintheshadeblog.com
At least we learn from them, right? Fashion can't be perfect all the time!
DeleteThese gold oxfords are fabulous on you, Carylee! Love them with the red. =)

I hope you are having a great week so far!

Thank you so much, Amber!
DeleteI think you look fabulous! Yes, the shirt would have looked great just on it's own but what the hell, life is too short not to throw on a statement necklace every now and then ;-)
ReplyDeleteKatie / Pouting In Heels #AllAboutYou
Haha! I love the way you think!! Thank you!!
DeleteYou do not look like a Golden Girl! Love your top and those gold oxfords!

Haha! Thank you! I just felt tacky, but it's all good - all the pieces individually really are great!
DeleteI love that you did a critique and review of yourself, although I have to say Golden Girl did not spring to mind when I saw the pictures! I love the pic with the pov down at those shoes! As for your critique - sounds like you followed Coco Chanel's mantra "before you leave the house, always remove one accessory". She was always right! Thanks so much for linking up to All About You xx
