OK, the dust has settled from Labor Day weekend and the nephew's first birthday, so I think I can finally sit down and give you a proper recap! I was going to make this all about a packing post, but instead, I will do two parts - what I wore and then also little snippets of the party itself! That was the whole purpose of the trip after all! Let's start with the outfits, shall we?
I originally planned to show you EVERYthing I packed in comparison to what I actually wore, but I packed a lot. Not going to lie. And after all my purchases from the weekend, this was me trying to pack the day we were headed home. You know you've been there, too, so don't judge! And yes, it's the teeniest suitcase ever because I refuse to check a bag! That suitcase was jam packed and ridiculously heavy. Good thing I had the husband there to put it in the overhead bin for me! Not quite sure how I'm going to manage for NYC this weekend, but at least I'm only going for half the time as compared to this trip!
L to R: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4
Day 1: A dash of shopping (recap here), but mostly helping the sister with last minute party stuff.
Sunnies: Ray Ban | Earrings: Kendra Scott (c/o) | Necklace: Kendra Scott (c/o) | Bag: Longchamp (in New Navy) | Top: Express | Shorts: Express | Flip Flops: American Eagle
Day 2: Shopping at the Americana and then bowling in the evening with the family.
Necklace: Purple Peridot | Top: Express | Jeans: American Eagle (similar) | Sandals: Sam Edelman
Day 3 (part 1): Church
Necklace: Purple Peridot | Dress: Mindy Mae's Market | Heels: Vince Camuto (option)
Day 4: Travel day home
Earrings: Kendra Scott (c/o) | Scarf: Express | Top: Halogen | Jeans: American Eagle | Sandals: Sam Edelman
Day 3 (part 2): Nephew's party || Necklace: Purple Peridot | Romper: American Eagle | Sandals: Sam Edelman
I really didn't know what our agenda would be ahead of time other than that the party was Sunday afternoon and we flew in on Thursday. (I wasn't able to properly photograph my Thursday travel outfit, BTW, sorry about that.) I loathe packing, but it's even more frustrating packing for the unknown - I just started throwing stuff into my bag. Unfortunately, I made bad shoe choices. I only brought three pairs - my new Nike Internationalists (that I ended up wearing Thursday for travel), my leopard slides, my white pumps, and some white flip flops. Well, I really didn't need heels other than for church, but the bulk of my outfits I brought relied on those pumps. The flip flops would have been fine (though I don't normally like wearing flip flops as real life shoes), but they rubbed in between my toes and were really uncomfy.
On top of that, I had planned on wearing this exact outfit (minus the heels) to my nephew's party except that I totally forgot that I would be sans shoes and in socks the whole time because it was at an indoor playground. And well, yeah. That dress would be silly.
So, on day 2, I bought this romper (it was only $14!) and another pair of Gigi sandals in brown - I already have them in leopard and in almond patent. The romper ended up being perfect for the party, especially since I was the appointed photographer and I was sweating my booty off running around everywhere! Plus it was HOT that day!
Ok! So on to the party for those that are interested! My sister went a little Pinterest crazy and showed me all of her inspiration photos for the theme. She ended up doing a "wild west" type of theme, and the turn out was basically like a wedding - well over 100 people. CRAZY I know, but it was adorable! She rented out an indoor playground so the kids had free reign over the place for a good 2.5 hours.
Pie tins instead of paper plates!
And here is the birthday boy! I miss him already! He is smart and so social and engaging! He laughs whenever you laugh, he mimics your sounds and faces you make, and his favorite things are water bottles and car keys. Oh, and my tassel necklace. We quickly became BFFs thanks to my tassel necklace. He was not a fan of the smash cake. He cried right after he touched it, and when they tried to hand it to him a second time, he cried again! Ha! Perhaps he's a clean freak or simply hates the texture. It was cute regardless!
Since I was the photographer, I realized there weren't any photos of myself! Luckily, my sister in law got a selfie stick free with purchase at American Eagle. Ha! It came in quite handy at the end of the night! This is my family and I love every one of them so much!
Thanks for sticking with me! One trip down, one more to go next week! Stay tuned!

Oh my gosh!! How did I not realize until now that you actually went shopping on the trip for stuff to wear right away!?? I totally thought those were the Gigi sandals you already had. Well, in the end all of your outfits looked so cute even if you weren't satisfied with your shoe options. LOL at you cramming your suitcase shut! Are you really NOT checking a bag for NY?!? I am amazed!

Haha!! I have had to do the same thing with my suitcase...while in the middle of the airplane aisle!! I expanded it to fit my purchases and the overhead was smaller due to the small size of the plane. It took a good 5 minutes and many glares from the flight attendants before I got the expansion zipped back in!!

I am horrible at packing too and always pack way too much. I am not a fan of putting things in the over head bin so I always carry a giant suitcase. I miss those days when airlines didn't charge for checked bags. Looks like a great first birthday party!
