This is a little bit of a random post, but I've been wanting to touch on this for some time, but wasn't really sure how to communicate it! With things getting a little crazy around here for December, I figured this was a nice easy, breezy post to help close out the week. So, what is this all about? Well, if you look at my Instagram account, at first glance, it appears to be a hodgepodge of randomness. I love the look of a consistent, organized feed, but I don't just want to provide one type of content because I like sharing my outfits in different formats. One night I decided to create my own hashtags for the main buckets of photo types I share most regularly. It makes the OCD part of me very happy to see each photo type mingle nice and happily with its peers. And today I wanted to share those hashtags with you!
First up is the obvious - my mirror selfie. When I started posting regularly on Instagram, my selfies were all over the place in terms of format. At the beginning of 2015, I decided that I wanted to standardize the way I posted these so they look more consistent in my feed. I use the InstaCollage app to mirror these selfies.
I wonder who posted the first ever top down selfie? They're a genius. This is probably my favorite way to post an outfit, though admittedly, not all outfits lend themselves to be posted in this format. Clothes just don't lay as well as you want them to when your hand is up in the air holding your phone. But I love being able to get natural light into the photos and also have the ability to take them anywhere there is daylight.
I don't use this one as much, though it's always fun when I do because I love to see the same pieces styled different ways, and I feel like my followers do as well. These are always really great engagement posts for me.
This is my newest created hashtag. It's a great way to share the hero shots of my shoes on Instagram just like I do for the blog. And I love seeing my shoes all in one place! It will be fun to see this hashtag grow as I continue to use it more, especially as the seasons change.
This is pretty self explanatory. I change the color of my nails pretty often - I'd say every 3-4 days or so. I may not always successfully document the color change, but I try to do so especially for new colors I'm trying for the first time.
And last but not least are my flat lays. My flat lays were the reason I started creating hashtags in the first place. I rely on my hashtags so heavily for outfit planning, documenting inspiration, and cataloging new purchases that need to be worn. It's extremely convenient and gratifying to be able to see these all in one place!

My main goal for Instagram, and all my social media accounts really, is to provide different but related content on each platform. I don't want my blog to simply be a regurgitation of what I share on Instagram or Facebook, nor do I want Instagram to be a 100% rerun of my blog content. With so much social media options out there, I've definitely focused on Instagram first and foremost with Facebook being my secondary platform of choice. I also spend a lot of my time on Snapchat, but I quickly forget about what I post since it's so disposable! I love it though - being able to hear people's voices and seeing their lives unfiltered is very helpful and fun!
If you've stuck with me for this entire post, you are probably thinking I am a crazy obsessed lunatic. And you may be right! I just love organization, and I hope at least one of my hashtags entices you to follow along!

Love all of these ways that you post outfits! You are not crazy at all! Can you share the link to the post where you showed us how to do the top selfie and flat lays? And to think I found you from searching the Internet for express portifinos! Lol

DeleteEeeeeeesh I kind of don't want to share these because they are so out of date as I've updated my techniques on both.
For flat lays- I use natural light - putting my board next to a large, low height window in the office. I don't really use this light box anymore, but here you go:

And for the selfies- I don't collage the top downs with the front views anymore, I just do a full square of the top down. Though the height I hold my phone really doesn't change:

And yay for portofinos leading you to me!
You're not at all crazy obsessed. You are purposeful and strategic...and I love it! Thank you for sharing your hashtag strategy. This is really smart.
